“It washed down in the genes” my grandmother would say! And when it comes to the love of food, cooking and baking, I have got some strong genes! My family is all about what I like to call food-a-palooza! And with that has come the sourcing of ingredients, the recipe experimenting, the setting of the table, the love of beautiful china, the decorations, the menu planning, the guests… I could go on and on. And trust me I will… Keep checking for Food is Fun posts!
Whom do you know who waits eagerly for the weekly supermarket specials to come out? Me! Know anyone who walks the grocery store aisles just to relax? Me! Would you drive an hour just to get an ingredient for a new recipe? That would be me! Grammy was right, it is in my genes!
I will admit that it was a bit of a disappointment to my father after I graduated university, worked for a couple years in banking and declared that I was going to go to Pastry school. But from that moment when I felt that I must follow this passion, I dove right in. I left Florida off to Culinary school when I major category 5 hurricane had just done some serious damage. But it is amazing how sheer will and determination can make things happen. I was broke, had no idea where I was going to live when I got there, or how I was going to support myself. But it all came together. This is why they say, “When you are about to give up, look at how far you have come!” Keep looking at how far you have come!!!
Long before it was seemingly popular for any and everybody to be snapping photos of their food, I was capturing those moments, when I could.
Now smart phones and just fingertips away. And now it not considered rude to whip out your camera or smart phone and start taking photos right at the dining table. It is almost expected!
Food-a-palooza will be a gateway to fun with food.
